Overview
We are currently seeking an Operations Manager to join our Eastleigh team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safety, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring performance within the designated area of control.
Applicants should have previous line management experience and be dedicated to maintaining regular engagement with staff, nurturing their development, and ensuring their competencies are up to date.
Customer relations are vital to success in this role. The candidate must demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills, providing robust service to both internal and external customers. We seek a motivating manager with strong leadership skills who can plan work efficiently using available resources.
Due to operational demands, a flexible approach to working hours is required, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Participation in the regional on-call roster is also necessary.

Responsibilities
- Produce and update methods of work and risk assessments, and conduct audits and location checks as scheduled.
- Maintain a safe and orderly yard and working environment, reinforcing safety procedures among staff.
- Address safety issues promptly in accordance with railway regulations.
- Coordinate the delivery of jobs to customers with the planning teams to optimize rosters, considering budgets and performance, including last-minute cancellations or absences.
- Ensure shifts are fully staffed and communicated timely, with contingency plans for last-minute changes.
- Review and monitor systems for wagon damage caused during loading/unloading.
- Maintain equipment standards within locations to ensure reliable and continuous operation.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Line or supervisory management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Operational experience
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Skills
- ILM or other supervisory training
- Formal assessor and verifier qualification (A1/L12, V1 Verifier, or D132/33)
- Proven management and leadership skills
- Incident investigation experience
- Experience handling disciplinary and investigations
- Knowledge of Class 66 and relevant route and traction details
- Train Operations Liaison Officer (TOLO) certification
