The role of a Train Manager Operator at GB Railfreight is critical to the business to ensure our customers are provided with a best-in-class service at all times. In this role, the candidate will take responsibility for the delivery of key activities on the front line and within a 20 miles radius of their defined depot. Candidates will need to be conscious of and operate with the highest regard for safety.
This role is focused on shunt moves within the Bardon area over a 5-day working week. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Shunter who is seeking a change of pace or perhaps seeking a new opportunity with a growing and ambitious company.
Responsibilities
- Operate locomotives, both light engines and freight trains with safety at the forefront of all actions, utilising risk triggered commentary as a rule.
- Comply with all rules and instructions, undergoing proficiency assessments to maintain competence.
- Complete route and traction training, maintaining competence as required.
- Locate and where possible rectify faults by following the correct reporting procedures.
- Represent the company to our customers, maintaining a professional outlook in both behaviour and appearance.
- Read and fully understand all notices and amendments affecting the locomotive, train or route the Train Manager is working.
- Communicate issues pro-actively and effectively with GB Railfreight controllers, line managers, signallers and customer representatives.
- Ensure safety of oneself and all others working in and around the Railway by remaining focused, vigilant and taking the correct measures to prepare for duty.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have a clean safety record and must hold a valid UK driving licence.
- Must have passed the Train Drivers Psychometric assessment within the last 5 years.
- Safety conscious and calm attitude in an event of an emergency situation.
- Excellent concentration and observational skills.
- Clear and professional communication skills to relay important safety messages.
- Customer focused with excellent problem solving skills.
- The Train Manager Operator must live within 45 minutes of the advertised location.
