About The Role
The Recruitment Advisor plays a key role in attracting and recruiting frontline operational employees across GB Railfreight.
Working closely with hiring managers and the wider HR team, you will coordinate recruitment activity from vacancy approval through to onboarding, ensuring vacancies are filled efficiently whilst delivering an exceptional experience for candidates and managers alike.
This is a fast-paced role requiring excellent organisation, attention to detail and administrative skills.
You will support high-volume recruitment campaigns, manage recruitment processes across multiple vacancies and provide support and cover for colleagues within the Talent Acquisition team when required.
A key focus of this role is ensuring every candidate receives a professional, engaging and positive recruitment experience.
You will be responsible for maintaining regular communication with candidates, managing expectations and ensuring feedback is provided wherever possible, helping to position GB Railfreight as an employer of choice.
You’ll bring solid recruitment experience, whether that’s from an agency or in‑house recruitment environment.
You must be able to build relationships, manage vacancies end to end and be passionate about delivering an exceptional candidate experience.
This role is based in our Peterborough office, with travel required.
The salary on offer is up to £40,000 depending on experience.

- Main Responsibilities
- Manage recruitment activity for frontline operational roles across the business, including traincrew, operational, maintenance and support positions.
- Coordinate the end-to-end recruitment process from advertising through to onboarding.
- Screen applications against agreed criteria and support hiring managers with shortlisting activities.
- Arrange interviews, assessment centres, medicals, psychometric testing and pre-employment checks.
- Act as the primary point of contact for candidates throughout the recruitment process.
- Deliver a best-in-class candidate experience through professional, timely and engaging communication.
- Ensure candidates are kept informed throughout the recruitment process and receive feedback wherever possible.
- Build positive working relationships with hiring managers and support them through the recruitment process.
- Prepare offer documentation and support onboarding activities for successful candidates.
- Maintain accurate records within recruitment and HR systems.
- Produce recruitment reports and provide updates on recruitment activity as required.
- Support high-volume recruitment campaigns and recruitment events.
- Coach and support managers with the interviewing process, undertaking interviews as appropriate.
- Ensure recruitment processes are compliant with company procedures, employment legislation and industry requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve recruitment processes and candidate experience.
- Provide flexible support and cover for other members of the Talent Acquisition team during periods of annual leave, absence or increased workload.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the role.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Experience working within recruitment, ideally in an in‑house or agency recruitment environment.
- Experience using Applicant Tracking Systems, HR systems or recruitment databases.
- Experience of using Social media platforms to attract and engage candidates.
- Hands‑on experience with full‑cycle recruitment, including interviewing techniques and candidate evaluation methods.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience managing multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to keep candidates, managers and colleagues informed throughout the recruitment process.
- Strong customer service focus, with a commitment to delivering a professional, responsive and high‑quality recruitment experience.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with candidates, hiring managers and colleagues.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Proactive, accurate and resilient, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
