About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring GB Railfreight's fleet remains compliant, safe and fit for the future. Working at the heart of the engineering function, you will oversee vehicle maintenance documentation, engineering standards, engineering change processes and vehicle-to-infrastructure compatibility activities, ensuring compliance with ROGS 2006 (as amended) and relevant industry standards.

Supporting a range of strategic projects, you will drive the development of effective systems and processes that enable delivery on time and within budget. Success in the role will be achieved through strong stakeholder engagement, working collaboratively with both internal and external partners to build effective, long-term relationships across the rail industry.

A key focus of the position will be supporting the delivery of ETCS-fitted locomotives, acting as the link between design houses and infrastructure managers to ensure vehicle and infrastructure compatibility is demonstrated and evidenced throughout every stage of the project lifecycle.

The salary on offer is up to Β£65,000. This role can be based in any of our office locations, Peterborough, London or Doncaster.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain and keep maintenance instructions up to date and in line with best practice whilst incorporating new technology advances.
  • Manage and review incidents and produce reports.
  • Manage Engineering Standards including updates from legislations and business requirements.
  • Work closely with the Asset/Production teams to identify modifications, maintenance updates and safety improvements to GBRf ECM traction and rollingstock.
  • Managing Engineering Change projects
  • Produce / Manage KPI and reports.
  • Develop and manage compatibility tracker.
  • Develop and maintain a solid relationship with Networks Rail’s compatibility team.
  • Complete requisite documentation and submit in a timely fashion to ensure compatibility requests are converted in line with business objectives.
  • Develop 1:1 relationships with key individuals within the GBRf functions ensuring communication and feedback is maintained at the highest level.
  • Liaise with Contract and Sales managers to identify new work streams.
  • Work closely with the Planning department regarding route restrictions and prohibitions.
  • Ensure Statements of Compatibility Files are reviewed and authorised, and suppliers receive relevant documents.
  • Confirm the supplier registers finalised Statement of Compatibility with Rolling Stock Library (R2)
  • Be the single point of contact for all compatibility enquiries to the point at which it becomes business as usual
  • Liaise with 3rd party design house as required to ensure projects are delivered to plan.
  • Attend meetings as required to support the wider business needs.
  • Process Engineering Change requests through the Engineering Change Process.
  • Hold delegated authority for Engineering Change, RIS-2453-RST Vehicle Registration activities on R2.
  • Report on KPI’s applicable to Compatibility and Engineering Change.

Skills and Experience

  • Management experience gained within the rail industry.
  • Stakeholder management experience (internal and external)
  • Effective communicator at all levels
  • Understanding of contracts, budgets, reporting systems.
  • Project plan methodology

Essential Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree or similar experience
