GB News is seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Editor to join The Late Show Live — our brand new nightly news and current affairs programme presented live from Washington, D.C. This flagship show delivers a unique perspective on UK and global news, offering fresh insight from the United States each night. As Assistant Editor, you will be based in Washington, D.C. and play a key role in shaping the editorial content and direction of the programme. You will support the Editor in overseeing the editorial output, ensuring accuracy, editorial integrity, and a sharp, engaging tone that speaks directly to our audience. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive a high-profile programme that covers major news stories from the UK, the US, and across the world, with energy, creativity, and a distinct voice.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Senior Editor in the editorial planning and production of The Late Show Live, ensuring the programme is relevant, timely, and distinctive.
- Lead the daily editorial meetings and guide a team of producers, researchers, and reporters to develop compelling content and segments.
- Write and edit scripts, headlines, and in-show graphics with clarity and flair, ensuring editorial accuracy and tone.
- React swiftly to breaking news and major developments, coordinating with UK and international teams to deliver informed coverage.
- Collaborate with on-air talent to shape interviews, monologues, debates, and panel discussions.
- Brief on-air talent daily before TX using Saga and Mimir.
- Oversee the integration of live reports, guest interviews, and video packages into the show’s rundown in the Washington bureau.
- Ensure adherence to GB News editorial standards, legal and compliance frameworks, and broadcasting regulations.
- Act as the point of contact for the UK editorial team, ensuring consistent output across time zones and platforms.
- Deputise for the Editor when required.
- Liaise with newsdesk for on-air talent's hit and pitch stories.
- Forward plan diaries, stories, interviews and filming for on-air talent in DC.
- Attend film shoots and package them up ready to air.
- Pitch and set-up digital content outside of TV broadcasts.
- Build relationships with contacts in Washington that would benefit the show.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior editorial role within a live news or current affairs broadcasting environment.
- A deep understanding of UK news, politics, and culture — with a strong grasp of US and international affairs.
- Excellent editorial judgement with a strong track record of shaping compelling content under tight deadlines.
- Outstanding scriptwriting and sub-editing skills.
- Confidence in handling breaking news and rapidly evolving stories.
- Experience working with studio production teams, technical crews, and on-air talent in a live broadcast setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire junior staff.
- Flexibility to work late hours (live evening broadcast) and occasional weekends as required.

- Familiarity with digital news platforms and social media storytelling.
- Experience working in or reporting on transatlantic or international news environments.
