We are seeking an experienced Camera Operator / Editor to join our team in London. This role is ideal for a skilled news camera operator with a strong background in live broadcasting, outside broadcasts, news gathering, and editing. Working closely with technical, editorial, and production teams, you will contribute to live, pre-recorded, digital, and remote productions while maintaining the highest broadcast standards. Reporting to the Head of Field Operations, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of GB News content in a high-pressure, 24-hour news environment.
Key responsibilities and main tasks:
- Lead all aspects of live and non-live filming for news gathering and production.
- Ensure technical equipment is used to its full capability in line with production values.
- Maintain and enforce internal procedures for equipment and asset management.
- Apply strong editorial judgment to enhance storytelling and visual output.
- Demonstrate a keen interest in emerging audio‑visual technologies and newsroom innovation.
- Work effectively with on‑air talent in fast‑paced, media‑intensive environments.
- Set up and operate ENG cameras for single‑ and multi‑camera productions, including robotic and PTZ cameras.
- Work on Royal and Political Pool assignments domestically and abroad.
- Operate audio equipment, including field mixers, audio boards, and microphones.
- Light single‑ and multi‑camera shoots, with a strong understanding of power and technical requirements.
- Mix and route audio for multi‑camera productions and live remote broadcasts.
- Manage live remotes, including IFB communications.
- Utilize bonded cellular and satellite transmission technologies such as LiveU, Starlink, SRT, and similar systems.
- Edit news content accurately and efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Collaborate closely with editorial, production, and technical teams.
- Support breaking news coverage, often requiring last‑minute deployment.
- Work flexibly across bureau‑based duties, field shooting, and remote editing.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in news broadcasting with a recognised national broadcaster.
- Proven track record in live television production and news editing under pressure.
- Strong technical proficiency with modern camera systems and broadcast technologies.
- Professional proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (CC).
- Experience operating bonded cellular transmission equipment (LiveU, Starlink).
- Working knowledge of field audio mixers and live audio workflows.
- Strong understanding of news, current affairs, and the political landscape.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
Additional Requirements:
- Flexible and willing to work non‑standard hours, including overtime and weekends.
- Able and willing to travel extensively, often at short notice, both domestically and internationally.
- Career‑focused with a willingness to learn new technical skills.
- Clean valid driver’s license and passport.
