The Lead Teacher plays a key role in delivering effective educational leadership alongside high-quality classroom practice within a positive and ambitious college setting. This position supports young people, many of whom have complex needs and may display challenging behaviours. The role is focused on maintaining excellent standards in teaching, behaviour support, curriculum implementation, staff development, and learner achievement to ensure consistently strong provision. The post includes teaching for 3 days each week, with the remainder of the time allocated to leadership and management duties.
What you’ll be doing:
- Teach Maths and/or English (up to Level 2), delivering high-quality, engaging lessons that support progress for all learners.
- Create a positive, inclusive learning environment with high expectations for attendance, behaviour, achievement, and progression.
- Plan, deliver and adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of learners, using a range of effective teaching strategies and resources.
- Assess, monitor and track learner progress, identifying needs and implementing appropriate support and intervention strategies.
- Lead and coordinate multi-agency support to ensure learner wellbeing and success.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour management, safeguarding, and student welfare.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide effective pastoral care and maximise learner outcomes.
- Manage timetables and deploy teaching and support staff effectively to ensure efficient delivery.
- Lead the development of subject areas, including planning and updating schemes of work in line with curriculum and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, driving continuous improvement.
- Set clear expectations and targets for staff, managing performance and supporting professional development.
- Lead on safeguarding practices, ensuring compliance with all policies and statutory requirements.
- Contribute to behaviour strategies at both individual and whole-organisation level.
- Support recruitment, and coach, motivate and develop staff to achieve high standards.
- Complete all required administrative duties, including registers, exam entries and invigilation.
What we're looking for:
- A recognised teaching qualification.
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) experience.
- Proven experience in line management, including setting performance targets and carrying out regular supervision.
- Strong understanding of teaching, learning, and lesson planning.
- Knowledge of curriculum delivery, assessment, and study programmes.
- Experience working with young people, including those with complex needs, behavioural challenges, and additional learning needs.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons.
- Skilled in adapting teaching and behaviour strategies to meet diverse needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
