As a preferred supplier to one of our biggest Telecom Clients, I am seeking a Middleware Engineer (Linux/Unix) for a position in The UK (Reading, Leeds or London). As a Middleware Resource, you will be part of a dynamic application operations and service delivery team supporting enterprise middleware platforms. The role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining middleware and integration services across Linux/Unix environments. You will work closely with application, infrastructure, and database teams to ensure high availability, performance, and stability of services. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to enterprise systems, APIs, and modern integration technologies within a structured ITIL-driven environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Support and maintain middleware platforms and application services in production and non-production environments
- Monitor system performance, logs, and alerts using enterprise tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace)
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and perform fixes within SLA timelines
- Execute basic SQL queries for data validation, troubleshooting, and reporting
- Work on Linux/Unix environments for deployments, log analysis, and system checks
- Support API and web service integrations (REST/SOAP) and assist in issue resolution
- Automate routine operational tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, etc.)
- Participate in release, deployment, and environment management activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, DB, infra) for issue resolution
- Follow ITIL processes for Incident, Problem, and Change Management
Must have:
- Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments
- Basic experience with Java-based applications or middleware systems
- Understanding of web services and APIs (REST/SOAP)
- Ability to write and execute basic SQL queries; understanding of database concepts
- Exposure to application servers or middleware platforms (e.g., WebLogic, ESB, SOA, API gateways)
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar
- Basic scripting skills (Shell, Python, or equivalent)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and willingness to work in IT operations/support environment
Nice to have:
- Exposure to telecom/OSS-BSS environments or large-scale enterprise systems
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and microservices architecture
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools
- Understanding of integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Apigee, or similar
- Awareness of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- ITIL certification or formal training in service management processes
