At Gaussion we want to reduce charging times for electric vehicles (EVs) so that they are comparable with refuelling a traditional combustion vehicle. We believe that our patent-protected technology can achieve this, meaning lower resistance, faster EV charging and longer warranties. With a rapid expansion of our London headquarters, we have several opportunities to join our team.
Role
You will own the financial operations of the company, from monthly reporting and cash management through to grant funding, tax and statutory compliance. Working closely with the leadership team, you will make sure that our financial information is accurate, timely and trusted by our board and investors, and that our processes and controls keep pace with the business as it grows.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Lead the month-end close and produce monthly management accounts, with clear commentary on performance against budget.
- Prepare financial reporting for the board and investors, including budget versus actual analysis and key performance indicators.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain the company's cash flow forecast, highlighting risks and opportunities early.
- Manage the financial aspects of our grant-funded projects (Innovate UK and similar), including cost tracking, claims and audits.
- Oversee tax and statutory compliance, including R&D tax credits, VAT, payroll, statutory accounts and the annual audit.
- Develop costing for products, programmes and inventory to support commercial decisions and pricing.
- Manage the company's finance systems, processes and controls, including purchasing, approvals and expenses.
You will report to the COO and work across the whole company. This is a hands‑on role in a small team: you will be expected to get into the detail yourself, understand the engineering programmes behind the numbers, and build strong relationships across the business. Your contributions will help shape our finance function as the company scales.
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced finance professional who can demonstrate the following:
- A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience, including month-end close and management accounts.
- A track record of owning the finance function, or a significant part of it, in a growing business.
- Experience preparing budgets, cash flow forecasts and reporting for a board and investors.
- Working knowledge of UK R&D tax credits, VAT, payroll and statutory audit.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
- Experience in cloud accounting and reporting tools including Xero and advanced Excel.
Preferred experience:
- Experience managing the finance side of publicly funded R&D projects (e.g. Innovate UK, APC or Horizon Europe).
- Experience in a start-up or scale-up, where processes are still being built.
- Experience in a hardware, engineering or manufacturing environment, including inventory and product costing.
A competitive compensation package (base + equity) with regular reviews.
Hybrid working, with 1-2 days a week at Gaussion HQ, central London
36 days of annual holiday (28 days of leave + UK public holidays)
