This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.
What is the role?
As a Senior Project Engineer (Major Projects) at London Gatwick, you'll be instrumental in leading the design of strategically important, major building projects, typically exceeding £100 million in value.
You won't just be managing significant multi-discipline projects; you'll be shaping the future of the world's most efficient single runway airport.

You'll work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders up to board level and external design consultants, making sure everything runs smoothly, keeping the project on track, and within the budget.
What will you do?
- Reporting to the Design Manager, you will play a key role in the team, responsible for owning the end-to-end design process from the start of the project to its completion.
- This includes overseeing smaller projects as required
- Developing project scope to meet the business needs, along with delivering effective design management on individual projects.
- Working with multiple stakeholders to support the successful delivery of projects
- Seeking cost effective design solutions and managing external design consultants
- Providing technical input to any design changes through the lifecycle of the project
- Lead any assigned Design Management resources and fulfil a supervisory role for Project Engineers within the broader programme team
Do you have what we're looking for?
The live environment at London Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem solving skills and an innovative outlook.
Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work alongside multiple stakeholders.
In addition, this role requires
- Degree-qualified, or equivalent, in a Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in engineering design or design management on major infrastructure projects or multi-year programmes with values typically exceeding £100 million.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing engineering delivery teams.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the technical and regulatory requirements relevant to the MEP engineering discipline.
- Experience in developing project scopes and preparing design briefs is desirable.
- Working knowledge and practical experience of applying British Standards is desirable.
- Familiarity with the NEC suite of contracts and their application within engineering projects is desirable.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and managing engineering resources across multiple disciplines is desirable.
