Overview
Being a Senior Field Engineer (MEP) at London Gatwick, you will contribute to the development and growth of the World\’s most efficient single runway airport. Working in a fast-paced, dynamic, live environment offers a wide range of development opportunities. You will work with supportive and skilled colleagues who take pride in their work.
Working within the Major Projects Programme at Gatwick Airport means you will be part of a team delivering significant infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. The programme portfolio includes multi-million £ reconfigurations and extensions to International Departure Lounges, as well as the extension of a pier to increase capacity within the terminals and on the airfield.
As a Senior Field Engineer, you will work closely with the Project Management team to supervise and support multi-disciplined construction projects. Your experience in a similar role, on multi-million-pound projects with a focus on health, safety, and quality, will ensure you can successfully support all phases of the project, from planning and execution to completion and handover.

Role
Reporting to the Programme Construction Manager, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of large, complex projects across London Gatwick. You will work closely with internal teams, airport stakeholders and contractors to ensure successful completion of projects with involvement in the delivery process from end to end.
Duties will include:
- Providing constructability reviews and aligning project delivery with business requirements.
- Leading construction management resources, developing skills, maintaining quality standards, and providing guidance and support.
- Delivering regular site safety engagement on responsible projects to ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards and promoting a positive HSE culture. Continual monitoring of H&S onsite via routine inspections, challenging unsafe practices and promoting good safety practices.
- Reviewing contractor CDM, Quality, Safety and Handover submittals for quality and compliance.
- Assisting the Project Manager with the review and processing of contractual correspondence.
- Solving construction challenges by working with the contractor to develop solutions.
- Inspecting reports to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications during the construction and handover phase.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams within Civil, Architectural, MEP, and Structural Engineering to ensure all works are installed to plan.
- Facilitating contractor works by liaising with Gatwick stakeholders and Airlines as required for access, works planning, equipment shutdowns and the processing of relevant permits following Gatwick Airport Limited processes.
What are we looking for?
The live environment at London Gatwick requires a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work alongside multiple stakeholders such as Airfield Operations, Passenger Operations, Baggage Operations and Security. In addition, this role requires:
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent in Building Services, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable but not essential.
- Experience delivering significant Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing projects.
- Previous experience as a Senior Field Engineer, Senior MEP Construction Manager or Senior MEP Engineer on larger complex infrastructure projects with multiple stakeholders and possession working is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading small teams.
- Understanding of controlling and managing the project close out and handover process (bringing into use).
- Previous experience in challenging and addressing HSE issues associated with construction.
- Understanding and knowledge of quality management.
- Experience tracking project progress vs programme and flagging issues early for resolution/escalation.
- Ability to perform schedule monitoring, identifying critical activities, milestones and quantity tracking of internal and external activities.
- Sound commercial and financial awareness, with knowledge of the NEC3/4 suite of contracts.
