This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.

What is the role?

To lead on Gatwick's media and digital strategy supporting the airport's strategic objectives while protecting our reputation. Experience in a similar/live operational environments is desirable, with demonstrable experience building, protecting and promoting the organisation's reputation including through regular engagement with the media and crisis media handling is critical to this role. Lead development and implementation of communications strategy that supports the business strategy. Lead on the coordination of consistent external messaging across all corporate channels.

What will you do?

  • Lead London Gatwick's Media Relations and Digital teams, including during crisis situations.
  • Proactively promote Gatwick 'stories' which underpin Gatwick's business objectives.
  • Create and develop close working relationships with key national journalists.
  • Build/maintain relationships with airport stakeholders to ensure consistent, timely and joined up communications activity.
  • Manage senior relationships internally to ensure information is gathered and messaging is agreed and consistent.
  • Manage media engagement for the CEO, Executives and SLT Spokespeople.
  • Line management of Media Communications Executive, Digital Communications Executive and on call press office rota.
  • Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the media communications strategy.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Degree desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the media in all its forms (national, regional and vertical) as well as digital channels.
  • Experienced line manager.
  • Strong communications planning skills and experience of coordinating high profile campaigns.
  • Proven, significant experience of media relations and social media in a fast-paced and challenging regulatory and/or politically sensitive environment.
  • Proven, significant experience of working collaboratively across teams, external stakeholders and channels on integrated communications campaigns.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of crisis media handling – demonstrating ability to think on feet and act appropriately under pressure.
