What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactionary, maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment which make up the baggage systems in Gatwick Airport. To ensure that duties undertaken are of a high standard and to maximise operational uptime. This is a shift-based position which includes night and weekend working.
This role is critical in supporting the Baggage operations at Gatwick, with key assets including Complex Conveyor Systems, Sortation Machines, Carousels, Scanners, PLCs and IT based Control Systems.
What will you do?
- Undertake planned preventative/corrective maintenance, mindful of asset performance and operational requirements.
- Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
- Pro-actively undertake and support performance improvement activities/programmes.
- Take responsibility for safety, including others as part of a legal responsibility such as the wearing of PPE, completing mandatory training and the reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Using GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as required.
- Developing skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure they are maintained in a manner which keeps them performing at a required level
- Undertake role specific training required for the role
- Working in passenger facing areas, as well as back of house areas (check in zones, baggage halls, comms rooms, security etc.) across the airport campus.
- Working collaboratively. This role has no direct reports.
Do you have what we\’re looking for?
- Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic) or equivalent.
- Core skill/bias of Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3)
- Technical experience working in a maintenance environment.
- Ability to understand and interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
- Understanding and proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline
- Able to carry out system performance improvements
- Knowledgeable of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations
- The owner of a driving licence
