The Construction Planner will play a key role in Gatwick’s future by providing a full planning service for all assigned projects. You will manage schedule development, maintenance, monitoring and recovery plan development activities, and provide technical support and guidance including Work Breakdown Structure, Cost Breakdown Structure and Resource Loading. Responsibilities fall on smaller projects (typically up to £20 m) or you may support a Senior Planner on larger projects. Key projects include replacing boilers with all‑electric, non‑fossil fuel plants, transitioning to refrigerants with lower global warming potential, and providing the infrastructure for our growing fleet of electric vehicles.

The role follows an office‑first hybrid approach – three days a week in the office and two days remote – managed around business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a robust delivery schedule for work activities with clear milestones and monitoring activities to support the project schedule.
  • Coordinate work sequences with the total project plan and manage interdisciplinary constraints or interfaces.
  • Perform schedule monitoring, identify critical activities, and update functions for specific applications, disciplines or specialities.
  • Develop and apply installation rates to quantity take‑offs and developed quantities for assigned projects.
  • Review and analyse contractors’ schedules submitted for acceptance, and provide recommendations to the project team.
  • Evaluate quantities, job hours, staffing and schedule logic for specific disciplines or specialities.
  • Prepare schedule, staffing and quantity progress and performance reports for assigned disciplines or specialities.
  • Manage contract programme assessment, acceptance/rejection, compensation events and delay analysis.
  • Review quantity logs to ensure total quantities are represented for assigned projects and assist in developing required job hour expenditures.
  • Analyse contractor’s schedules against the GAL baseline, identifying critical path activities and performance variance.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Post‑Graduate level or equivalent in construction or engineering.
  • Experience as a construction planner on projects with MEP work and value typically over £10 m.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 and MS Excel.
  • Experience planning infrastructure projects in a live operational environment.
  • Experience in performing quantity take‑offs, statistical analysis and computer operations.
  • Understanding of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction and start‑up work processes.
  • Understanding of mathematical and financial reports.
  • Knowledge of NEC contract types.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Awareness of airport environment is desirable.
  • Personal resilience and ability to operate within ambiguity.
