A highly respected engineering organisation developing advanced electronic systems for safety-critical and high-reliability applications is seeking Senior and Principal level Hardware Engineers to join their growing hardware team. This role is ideal for engineers with a strong background in schematic capture and PCB design, looking for varied, technically challenging work across complex product development programmes. Candidates from automotive, defence, aerospace, rail, or other regulated industries are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Role

You will play a key role in the design and development of electronic hardware at board level, working across the full product lifecycle – from concept through to integration and delivery. This is a varied role offering exposure to multiple projects and technologies, with opportunities to lead design activities and mentor junior engineers at senior and principal level.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and development of electronic circuits and PCB schematics for complex systems
  • Ownership of hardware design activities from requirements through to validation
  • Use of industry-standard CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB design
  • Supporting system integration and hardware bring-up activities
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant industry and regulatory standards
  • Contributing to design reviews and technical decision-making
  • Leading work packages and mentoring engineers (Senior / Principal level)

Key Skills & Experience

We're looking for engineers with strong hardware design fundamentals and experience in schematic capture:

  • Proven experience in schematic design for PCB-based electronic systems
  • Strong background in component-level design (analogue and/or digital circuits)
  • Experience using CAD tools such as Siemens Expedition (Mentor Graphics) or similar (e.g. Altium, Cadence, OrCAD)
  • Understanding of full hardware development lifecycle
  • Experience with signal integrity, EMC, and power design considerations
  • Familiarity with testing, debugging, and validation of hardware designs
  • Ability to translate requirements into detailed electronic designs

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in safety-critical or regulated industries
  • Exposure to FPGA, microprocessors, or embedded systems
  • Knowledge of high-speed design or mixed-signal systems

About You

You will be a proactive and technically strong engineer who enjoys working in a collaborative environment:

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or similar
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex design challenges
  • Capable of working independently and within multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence technical decisions
  • Demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and commitment to delivery

Principal-level candidates will also bring:

  • Experience leading projects or technical workstreams
