We are supporting the growth of a leading engineering team within the offshore wind sector and are seeking a Senior or Principal Project Engineer to play a key role in delivering complex offshore wind projects, with a particular focus on offshore substations (OSS). This is a high-impact opportunity within a strategic growth area, offering the chance to combine engineering excellence, project leadership, and client-facing responsibilities.

In this role, you will contribute to the technical delivery of multi-disciplinary offshore wind projects, taking on responsibilities such as Package Lead or Deputy Engineering Manager. You will be involved across engineering design, Owner’s Engineer services, and consultancy-led work, supporting the delivery of both large-scale projects and smaller, standalone commissions.

A key part of the role will involve overseeing and reviewing engineering deliverables across disciplines, while also providing hands-on technical input, particularly in critical areas such as offshore substation topside layout design. You will play an active part in Owner’s Engineer assignments, coordinating design reviews and developing key technical documentation including Basis of Design, Technical Specifications, and Employer’s Requirements.

You will also support procurement activities for major offshore assets, ensuring alignment with technical, commercial, and project delivery requirements. The role requires strong focus on risk management, programme delivery, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and industry best practices.

Alongside project delivery, you will support internal improvements by working closely with the Engineering Manager to enhance processes and efficiencies. You will collaborate across a broad range of teams including engineering, project management, environmental, advisory, and asset management functions, ensuring integrated and high-quality project outcomes.

You will also play an important role in business development activities by identifying new opportunities within offshore wind, contributing to bids and proposals, and representing the organisation in technical discussions with clients and stakeholders. This includes developing and reviewing technical content for tenders and supporting strategic growth initiatives within the sector.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline and will be either Chartered or working towards chartership. You will bring strong experience in offshore wind engineering, with a particular focus on offshore substations, and demonstrate a proven track record of delivering projects through FEED stage or beyond.

Experience contributing to offshore substation topside design and layout is considered critical for this role, along with a strong understanding of the offshore wind project lifecycle and relevant technical standards. Additional experience in detailed design, fabrication, or transport and installation of offshore substation topsides would be advantageous, as would exposure to both consultancy and developer environments.

Experience in procurement processes, including preparing Employer’s Requirements, tender documentation, and evaluating bids, is also desirable. Broader knowledge of substation foundations, geotechnical considerations, site investigations, certification, and CAPEX estimation would be beneficial.

This role requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, alongside strong organisational and leadership abilities. You should be comfortable managing complex stakeholder environments and balancing multiple priorities, with a proactive mindset and a strong interest in contributing to the continued growth and innovation of the offshore wind sector. Candidates who may not meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply if they have relevant and transferable experience.
