We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the design, modernisation, and delivery of complex application-focused technology solutions across a diverse estate. This is a senior, hands-on role requiring deep experience in application architecture, legacy transformation, and modern software engineering practices. The role requires an immediate start.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design and modernisation of applications, spanning legacy, packaged, and custom-built systems.
- Define target-state application architectures, including decomposition of monoliths, API-led integration, and adoption of modern design patterns.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and architectural direction to engineering teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Own and maintain solution and application architecture documentation, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and governance.
- Assess existing applications and platforms, identifying modernisation opportunities such as re-architecture, refactoring, or replacement.
- Evaluate emerging application technologies, frameworks, and tooling, recommending pragmatic adoption where they add value.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product owners, delivery leads, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Support delivery teams through build, test, and release phases, resolving architectural and design challenges as they arise.
- Contribute to incident and problem management by addressing systemic application design issues and driving continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
- Significant experience (ideally 5+ years) as a Solution or Application Architect delivering complex, multi-application solutions.
- Strong background in application modernisation programmes, including legacy transformation and migration to modern architectures.
- Deep understanding of software design principles, integration patterns, and modern engineering practices.
- Strong grasp of Agile delivery methodologies (SAFe preferred) and how architecture supports iterative delivery.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex application architectures to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-driven and comfortable managing multiple initiatives in a fast-paced delivery environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on pragmatic, maintainable solutions.
