Role Summary

As a Civil Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the civil construction scope of projects from conception through to completion.

You will manage a wide range of construction projects, including grid connection and private/balance of plant works ranging from LV (Low Voltage) up to 132k V.

The role requires strong leadership, commercial awareness, technical expertise, and the ability to successfully coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

• Review and fully understand all contractual documentation and key project requirements within two weeks of project award.
• Define project scope, deliverables, and civil construction requirements.
• Support commercial management of projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Assist with client and subcontractor contract administration.
• Prepare bills of quantities, tender invitations, and employer’s requirements for civil works packages.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from civil contractors.
• Conduct technical reviews of tender submissions.
• Manage procurement and appointment of civil contractors.
• Develop and administer subcontract agreements and associated documentation.

• Design
• Review designs and provide feedback on constructability and buildability.
• Ensure design teams understand construction sequencing and programme requirements.
• Ensure design deliverables meet project and construction team expectations.
• Collaborate with designers and stakeholders to resolve technical issues effectively.
• Operations
• Develop and manage civil construction project programmes.
• Work closely with Electrical Project Managers to ensure coordinated project delivery.
• Issue programme updates in line with contractual and reporting requirements.
• Forecast and manage project resource requirements.
• Maintain and update project responsibility matrices.
• Assist in developing and maintaining project deliverables schedules.
• Support preparation of project-specific Inspection and Test Plans.
• Support preparation of project-specific Quality Assurance Plans.
• Ensure planning conditions and statutory obligations are discharged in accordance with project requirements.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, utility providers, and other stakeholders.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical and progress updates.
• Produce regular progress reports for senior management.
• Obtain permits, approvals, licences, and permissions required for civil construction activities.
• Coordinate delivery of materials, equipment, and resources.
• Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Ensure all works comply with Building Regulations, industry standards, and best practice.
• Manage site management teams and subcontractors.
• Maintain project risk registers and issue logs.
• Support completion of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation within contractual timescales.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• HNC (Higher National Certificate) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in construction project management.
• Strong ability to read, interpret, and understand civil engineering drawings and specifications.
• High level of numerical, analytical, and IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Good understanding of construction contracts and subcontract management.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous experience within utility, power, energy, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience working on grid connection, substation, or balance of plant projects.
• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Project management qualifications such as APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of DNO, ICP, or utility network delivery environments.
