We are looking for an experienced SCADA Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of HV/Substation and Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) SCADA systems during construction and commissioning phases across both onshore and offshore environments. The role will operate in a client-facing capacity, ensuring that all systems are installed, integrated, tested, and commissioned in line with design specifications, industry standards, and project requirements.

The position involves oversight of complex hardware and software interfaces across the full project scope, including HVDC systems, substations, and wind turbine infrastructure. This includes LAN architectures (process, SCADA, server, client, operator, subsystem and DMZ networks), HVDC systems such as pole control, converter control, DC protection and measurement, AC protection systems, bay control units, HMI systems and fault reporting functionality.

Responsibility also extends to communication networks, operational technology (OT) cyber security, ancillary systems such as fire alarms and cooling systems, and fibre optic and cable communication infrastructure across both onshore and offshore installations. Close attention is required to installation quality, including cable routing, patching, and overall system integrity.

During commissioning, the engineer will support investigations into HV network and auxiliary system events, providing clear reporting and technical insight. Ongoing support will be provided to commissioning teams and wider project stakeholders, including hands-on involvement in testing, commissioning, and resolving interface issues between contractors.

Key responsibilities also include maintaining accurate weekly reporting on progress, risks, and issues, alongside comprehensive commissioning documentation. The engineer will ensure installations align with approved designs, oversee SAT execution (particularly for substation and offshore systems), and support the setup and operation of control room environments.

Monitoring contractor performance is essential, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and schedule expectations, while constructively challenging where necessary. The role requires strong troubleshooting capability, taking ownership of system failures, coordinating resolution with relevant stakeholders, and ensuring timely closure of engineering and quality issues.

Ensuring accuracy of as-built drawings and commissioning records is also a critical deliverable, alongside effective collaboration with engineering, quality, and operational teams. Regular interfacing with other project packages that integrate with SCADA systems is expected.

Candidates should have a strong background in SCADA systems within HV, WTG, or similar industrial environments, with solid knowledge of industrial control systems including PLCs, RTUs, and IEDs. Experience with industrial communication protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC-104, OPC (family), MMS, Modbus, and Profibus is essential.

A good understanding of communication and monitoring systems typically used within offshore wind environments is required, including technologies such as TETRA, VHF, 4G/5G, IP telephony, CCTV, ICCP, CMS, DTS, and fire detection/suppression systems.

A proven track record in a client or client-representative role on complex infrastructure or energy projects is important, alongside strong coordination, planning, and problem-solving capabilities. Candidates should be self-motivated, capable of working independently in demanding environments, and able to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.

A relevant technical or engineering qualification (degree, HNC, or equivalent) is required, along with IOSH or NEBOSH certification. Valid offshore and wind industry certifications (GWO) are essential, including working at height/advanced rescue, first aid, sea survival, fire awareness, and manual handling.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are expected, along with a high level of attention to detail and a structured, proactive approach to work. If you are an experienced SCADA professional with a background in HV and offshore wind commissioning and are interested in working on complex, high-value projects, please apply or get in touch to discuss further.
