What you'll bring to the team

We're looking for an experienced and influential Regional Health & Safety Manager to lead the Health & Safety agenda across our Rest of UK Merlin Gateway attractions.

Reporting to the UK Health and Safety Director, you'll play a key role in protecting our guests, employees and contractors while helping our attractions operate safely, compliantly and efficiently.

This is a highly visible leadership role that combines strategic thinking with practical delivery.

You'll work closely with attraction leadership teams, providing expert advice, guidance and challenge to ensure high standards of health & safety are embedded across the business.

From driving continuous improvement initiatives and supporting major projects to managing risk, investigations and compliance programmes, you'll help create environments where colleagues and guests can thrive.

You'll be a trusted partner to senior stakeholders, working across multiple attractions to identify and manage risk, implement effective policies and standards and build a positive safety culture.

You'll support leaders in making informed decisions, ensure robust governance and reporting processes are in place and lead the development of practical solutions that improve safety performance across the region.

Working with General Managers, operational teams, technical specialists, project teams and external regulators, you'll influence outcomes, strengthen compliance and support the safe delivery of new attractions, products, experiences and facilities.

You'll also play a key role in audits, incident management, training programmes and engagement activities that keep health and safety at the forefront of how we operate.

This is a full-time, permanent role with a flexible location, supporting our Gateway attractions across the Rest of the UK, including 6 SEA LIFE and 2 Dungeon attractions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Experience in health and safety roles, including experience in leadership positions.
  • Membership of a recognised professional health and safety body, or willingness to obtain membership within agreed timescales.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and risk management principles within operational environments.
  • Experience developing and implementing health and safety programmes, policies and standards.
  • Proven ability to advise, influence and support senior stakeholders on health and safety matters.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations and compliance reviews.
  • Ability to analyse risk, identify opportunities for improvement and drive practical solutions.
  • Experience supporting incident management processes, investigations and corrective action plans.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience working with external regulatory bodies and enforcement agencies would be advantageous.
  • Experience within leisure, hospitality or a similar customer-facing environment is preferred, although transferable experience from other sectors will be considered.
  • Experience relating to zoos, aquariums or animal care environments would be beneficial.
  • A proactive, pragmatic approach with a passion for continuous improvement and creating positive safety cultures.
