Gateway Unified School District Job Description: Teacher-Departmentalized Grades: 6-12

Responsibilities:

• Teaches assigned subject areas adopted by the Board of Trustees, or a combination thereof, in departmentalized or team teaching situations.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study required by state law and district regulations.
• Provides planned learning experiences that motivate pupils and make best use of instructional time.
• Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
• Translates lesson plans into effective learning experiences.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning environment.
• Collaborates in setting standards of expected student progress, and developing assessment techniques.
• Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff to assess and address health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Creates and maintains a functional and attractive classroom environment.
• Promotes a positive self-image for pupils by fostering a supportive and accepting learning atmosphere.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service and other approved professional growth activities.
• Performs basic attendance accounting as required.
• Supervises pupils during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
• Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
• Participates in curriculum and developmental programs at the school or district level.
• Participates in district and faculty committees and contributes to student-sponsored activities.
• Plans and coordinates the work of assigned paraprofessionals.
• Completes required school and district level reports, surveys, and other requests.
• Participates in district-sponsored school activities and events such as Back to School Night, Open House, and Home School Club events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• An appropriate California Teaching Credential.

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated success with pupil, parent, and staff relations.
• Previous successful experience teaching at the middle grade levels.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

• Physical demands include walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required are close, distance, and peripheral vision.
