The Role
This is a workshop‑based repair and rebuild role, not field breakdowns. You will be responsible for carrying out high‑quality repairs and rebuilds of mobile mining equipment and major components, working within Gateway’s safety, quality, and documentation systems. This role suits a mechanic who takes pride in workmanship, understands OEM rebuild standards, and is comfortable working in a structured, professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls of mobile mining equipment and components
- Strip, inspect, measure, repair, and reassemble major components including engines, transmissions, differentials, final drives, and hydraulics
- Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults using OEM manuals and specifications
- Complete work to Gateway, OEM, and client quality standards
- Accurately complete job cards, inspection reports, and QA documentation
- Identify and report defects, non‑conformances, and scope variations
- Comply with all Gateway safety systems including SOPs, SWPs, JHAs, and isolations
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, peers, and apprentices
About You
Essential:
- Trade qualified Heavy Duty Mechanic / Diesel Fitter
- Experience in a repair and rebuild or major component workshop
- Strong knowledge of mobile mining equipment systems
- Ability to interpret OEM manuals, drawings, and specifications
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Strong safety mindset and disciplined work practices
Desirable:
- OEM rebuild experience (CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi or similar)
- Major component rebuild experience
- Exposure to maintenance management systems
- High‑risk licences such as Forklift, Dogging, or Rigging
