Are you passionate about housing, tenancy sustainment and supporting people to live safely and independently? We are looking for a proactive and people-focused Housing Officer to join our Housing Services Team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in housing management, supported housing, social housing, tenancy support or a similar customer-facing service.
As a Housing Officer, you will provide high-quality housing and tenancy management services across a varied portfolio, including social housing and supported living accommodation. You will work closely with tenants, care and support providers, local authorities, maintenance teams and internal colleagues to ensure tenancies are well managed and tenants receive the right support to sustain their homes.
What you will be doing
You will be responsible for managing tenancy-related matters, including tenancy audits, tenancy sign-ups, lettings, voids, rent and utility payments, arrears prevention, property inspections, repairs reporting, anti-social behaviour concerns and complaints. You will also support tenants to understand their tenancy responsibilities, access relevant advice, maintain independence and engage positively with housing services.
- Providing advice and support to tenants on tenancy matters, welfare benefits and housing requests.
- Supporting tenants with additional needs to sustain their tenancies.
- Managing tenancy sign-ups, terminations, lettings and related paperwork.
- Working with finance and referrals teams to prevent and manage rent, service charge and utility arrears.
- Carrying out tenancy audits and property inspections.
- Supporting the management of nuisance, tenancy breaches and anti-social behaviour.
- Liaising with care providers, local authorities, maintenance teams and partner agencies.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with housing policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Supporting tenant engagement and service improvement.
About you
We are looking for someone who is organised, professional and confident working with people from different backgrounds. You will have strong communication skills, good attention to detail and the ability to manage a varied workload. You will ideally have:
- Experience in housing management, supported housing, social housing or tenancy management.
- Knowledge of tenancy agreements, arrears management, voids, lettings, repairs and complaints.
- An understanding of the legal and regulatory framework for social housing.
- Experience working with tenants or customers on a one-to-one basis.
- Good literacy, numeracy and record-keeping skills.
- A calm, respectful and solution-focused approach.
- An understanding of the barriers faced by people with learning disabilities, mental health needs, physical disabilities or sensory impairments.
- A housing or property management qualification is desirable, but relevant experience will also be considered.
