The team: An opportunity has arisen for the role of Senior Architectural Technologist within Design & Energy Services, who provide multi-disciplinary design, technical, Quantity Surveying, and Project Management professional services to the Council across a wide-ranging scope of projects to housing, schools, and public building portfolios, energy schemes, and the management of demolition projects.
About the role: We are seeking a highly motivated professional with a background in Architectural Technology, who can demonstrate that their knowledge, skills, and experiences align to the criteria of the Job Profile, and who can effectively work collaboratively with other disciplines both within the team and across wider Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a technical design function across all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work 2020, either as a single discipline / project lead, or collaboratively as part of a wider team, leading the production of technical drawings, construction detailing, specifications and schedules, for a wide range of projects, major and minor, across the Council’s portfolio of housing, schools and public buildings, including Energy and demolition schemes.
- Undertake site visits and surveys, prepare briefs / scopes / programs / risk registers, and deliver schemes to budgets with attention to quality assurance, with technical skill, whilst maintaining robust project and contractual audit trails in line with Service Operational Procedures.
- Be focused on Customer satisfaction through the delivery of high-quality projects.
- Support the delivery of schemes with the arrangement, management and coordination of external consultants and specialist suppliers, reviewing / coordinating all project information.
- Fulfil the duties of Principal Designer in accordance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 and The Building Regulations / The Building Safety Act.
- Provide Line Management to a technical design team, with strong mentoring skills, and promotion of professional development.
- Other responsibilities allocated appropriate to the grade of the post to meet the needs of both the Service and the organization beyond.
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge: Technical design competence; Understanding of processes aligning to the RIBA Plan of Work 2020, Codes of Practice, Statutory Regulations, CDM 2015, The Building Safety Act (including high-risk buildings), and site practices; Project safety; Traditional, non-traditional and modern methods of construction; Sustainable design solutions; Proficiency in AutoCAD (including REVIT) and NBS Chorus; Equality, diversity & inclusion.
- Qualifications: Degree in relevant professional discipline or demonstratable post-qualification experience in lieu of degree; Membership of a relevant professional body or willingness to progress to membership; Current UK driving license with access to either a car or means of mobility support.
- Experience: Surveys, scoping, understanding and arranging relevant pre-construction information; Coordinating and reviewing multi-disciplinary design information and value engineering; Strong analysis and problem-solving skills in challenging technical and construction environments; Contract Administration / Project Management of construction contracts; Awareness of emerging trends such as digital transformation, Net Zero, sustainability, and AI / digital collaboration platforms; People / team management; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Computer literate across the Microsoft Office suite.
