About the team
Sister Winifred Laver Promoting Independence Centre is part of Adult Social Care\’s Enablement and Independence Service. The aim is to optimise each service user’s functioning and independence (usually following trauma/illness), as a precursor to discharge or to prevent admission to hospital or residential care. The service is time-limited, with the aim of ensuring each service user is well enough to be discharged from the Centre within an average of 4–6 weeks. It currently supports up to 40 Gateshead residents at any one time, with building capacity for 60 beds.
We work as a multi-disciplinary team with the person, taking a holistic approach to enable them to maintain or regain the ability to return to their usual place of residence independently or with a reduced level of care and support. This will vary by person, but we will work with them to achieve their agreed outcomes.
