We are looking for a Stop Smoking Advisor. The team aims to address complex public health issues, reduce health inequalities and improve community wellbeing by focusing on prevention, health promotion and education. The Stop Smoking Advisor will work within our Public Health Team, delivering tailored, evidence-based stop smoking support predominantly within a hospital setting. The role supports the wider tobacco control agenda and creates an approach to quitting that puts the smoker at the centre and focuses on those most in need. The post holder will create a person-centred approach to quitting, ensuring smokers β particularly those from priority population groups β receive the right support at the right time.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and healthcare professionals within secondary care, providing specialist advice, guidance and support on stop smoking services to patients, professionals, visitors and members of the public.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and maintain accurate records of interventions.
- Help ensure the stop smoking service is targeted to priority population groups and liaise with partners to promote and encourage appropriate referrals.
- Set up, coordinate and deliver stop smoking interventions within secondary care and community settings as required.
- Deliver evidence-based behaviour change interventions through face-to-face and telephone consultations, tailoring conversations to individual needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience of working within stop smoking services or a related behaviour change role with a proven ability to deliver person-centred interventions to individuals and groups.
- Experience of partnership working is essential.
- Hold a relevant professional qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) or significant experience working within smoking cessation or behaviour change.
- National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) Level 2 training is desirable.
- Accurate record keeping using designated clinical and team systems; ability to work flexibly across settings.
- An enhanced DBS check is required.
This role is on a fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity until 31 January 2027.
