Overview
In this role you will shape Gateshead’s housing vision by leading the Asset Management Service and developing the HRA asset management plan and strategy. You will drive data-led decisions to ensure safe, sustainable, and value-for-money housing stock, while delivering major transformation in housing services. You’ll work closely with senior leadership to improve building safety, compliance, and service delivery, positively impacting residents and communities. This is a unique chance to influence long-term housing policy and regeneration within a forward-looking council.

Responsibilities
- Lead the development, management, and review of the HRA asset management plan and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
- Support and review the HRA business plan for 30-year viability and resource planning
- Manage stock condition surveys, data analysis, and inform investment planning for compliance and net zero targets
- Oversee capital programme delivery, planning, procurement, and value-for-money outcomes
- Coordinate consultation on investment proposals and delivery programmes
- Support day-to-day repairs, budget planning, and determine repair standards and product requirements
- Assess viability of HRA assets and plan demolitions, reconfigurations, or disposals
- Provide oversight and assurance for building safety across HRA and wider asset portfolio
- Support regeneration plans and management of HRA leaseholder services and service charges
- Manage budgets, financial planning, and explore external funding opportunities
- Ensure continuous service improvement through data-driven decision making and performance monitoring
Key requirements
- Extensive knowledge of asset management, built environment and building safety legislation
- Experience leading and developing teams and delivering change
- Strong political awareness and excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience in financial management and planning, including capital and HRA budgets
- Experience in commissioning, procurement, contract management, and performance monitoring
- Experience in data management and analysis to inform asset strategy and reporting
- Experience delivering complex projects/programmes within timescales
