Responsibilities
- The main function of the Electrical Engineer role is to specify, plan and implement the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment and to improve equipment performance.
- An Electrical Engineer must, at all times, use their expertise to ensure full compliance with regulatory, statutory and Corporate HSE requirements.
- Develop and adhere to Engineering procedures to support compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001 standards.
- Commission new equipment, including training of key staff.
- Co-ordinate repair and/or replacement of faulty electrical equipment.
- Will partake in the Duty Engineer Rota system.
- Trouble shoot equipment failures to identify root cause of any issue and implement lasting corrective actions.
- Support site CI activities related to H&S, quality and efficiency.
- Enhance project engineering particularly focussing on design, cost evaluation, liaison with machine builders and suppliers, planning, project control and commissioning.
- Provide technical support in the area of ongoing cost management and corporate projects to reduce fixed and variable costs.
- Ensure adequate spares coverage, at all times, for key equipment.

- Demonstration of effective supervision, leadership and management is required at all times.
- This includes effective communication, people development, performance management and dealing with conflict.
- The Electrical Engineer requires in depth engineering knowledge of electrical installations, control systems and manufacturing equipment, including equipment design, maintenance, diagnostics and repair.
- Effective Project management techniques and controls.
- Supplier negotiations and budgetary control experience.
- Development and monitoring of specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
- A logical approach to problem solving and an ability to make decisions under difficult circumstances, explaining rationale when required.
- Self-motivation and an ability to work with minimum supervision.
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of PLC systems, with emphasis on Siemens drives & controls.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and willing to learn proactively.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, Electrical Engineer(s) will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and support of Electrical Maintenance personnel, ensuring individual and team performance and standards are at a consistently high level to meet business priorities.
- This will include providing effective and consistent communication across the Electrical Maintenance team and addressing any performance related issues.
- The role will also manage, or support projects as allocated by Engineering Manager, ensuring regular updates to key stakeholders until project completion.
Requirements And Preferred Skills
- 2-4 years of experience.
- Typically requires a college or university degree or the equivalent work experience that provides exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts.
- Electrical Engineer(s) must be qualified to HND /HNC level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or have at least 5 years relevant experience in a similar senior engineering position within a Manufacturing facility.
- A formal qualification in Health and Safety Management would be advantageous.
Travel
- Must be available in the event of problems on site where expertise and guidance are required.
- Will be expected to visit suppliers, service providers and other Gates Factories as required.
- Will be required to work during shutdown periods to oversee projects and provide technical support.
