At Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, we provide acute hospital and community health services to more than half a million people living in the North Kirklees and Wakefield districts of West Yorkshire. We offer services from three main hospitals - Pinderfields (Wakefield), Dewsbury and Pontefract, and in the community at a range of settings such as health centres, clinics, GP surgeries, family centres and in people's own homes. With approximately 10,000 staff and an income circa £860 million, we provide our services by working locally in partnership with a range of statutory and voluntary sector organisations. We are an improving Trust with a clear ambition: to deliver excellent patient experience every single time.

At this challenging yet exciting moment, both for our organisation and for the wider health and care landscape, we are seeking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to join our Board. We need diverse, inclusive and compassionate leaders who not only reflect the community they serve, and the staff employed by the Trust but have the leadership style and breadth of perspective to make good collective decisions. You will bring senior strategic experience, ideally gained at Board level within a large and complex organisation.

In both roles we are seeking individuals with experience of leading organisational transformation focussed on continuous quality improvement, with a track record of using data and innovation to improve organisational performance and outcomes. Ideally this experience will be within a health or comparable complex, regulated environment and you will be confident operating across complex partnerships and multi-stakeholder environments, including community/patient engagement.

We are specifically looking for:

  • Digital, Data and Technology background, with Digital Transformation leadership experience
  • Experience as a CPO, HR Director or equivalent, leading the People/Workforce/OD agenda and supporting or delivering transformational change

As a Non-Executive Director, you will provide independent insight, constructive challenge and supportive scrutiny to the executive team. You will help ensure our decisions are grounded in high standards of governance, quality and safety, and that the voices of patients, staff and communities remain central to how we develop and improve. Above all, we are seeking someone with a genuine commitment to people, a passion for improving health outcomes, and a strong belief in the value of excellent, equitable healthcare services.

All candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of operating at Board or equivalent senior leadership level in a complex organisation, whatever the sector
  • The ability to provide constructive challenge and independent judgement
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk and assurance
  • The ability to work collaboratively across organisational and system boundaries
  • A commitment to improving patient outcomes, reducing inequalities and promoting inclusion
  • Personal credibility, integrity and alignment with the Nolan Principles of Public Life

As a future NHS leader, the successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they meet the NHS leadership competency framework for board members. The competency domains are aligned to Our NHS People Promise, Our Leadership Way and the Seven Principles of Public Life (Nolan Principles). We warmly encourage applications from people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, to improve the diversity of our board, ensuring we are reflective of the populations we serve. Applicants should ideally live in or have connections with the Wakefield and North Kirklees area served by the Trust.

Recruitment Timetable:

  • Closing date 9am Tuesday 15th September 2026
  • Stakeholder Event Friday 9th October 2026
  • Final Interviews Monday 12th October 2026
