An NHS healthcare organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Governance to provide essential governance support during a period of transition. This is a confidential replacement position due to current staff changes within the governance team.
The successful interim will provide immediate support to ensure continuity of governance operations, board/committee activity, and key regulatory preparations. Due to some recent changes within the team, this interim role is required to maintain governance continuity, manage BAU work, and support upcoming CQC preparation.
Essential Skills- Excellent understanding of corporate and organisational governance
- Experience taking high‑level minutes for Board and Committee meetings
- Strong drafting skills for board papers, governance documentation, and reports
- Ability to review and quality‑assure governance papers
- Knowledge of annual reports, governance statements, and statutory compliance
- Able to support CQC inspection preparation (previous CQC experience helpful but not essential)
- Comfortable working in fast‑paced environments with changing priorities
- Provide hands‑on governance support during a period of staffing change
- Take minutes for Board and Committee meetings and manage associated governance documentation
- Support preparation of the Annual Report and Governance Statement
- Oversee the review and quality assurance of governance papers
- Maintain BAU governance functions, ensuring deadlines and statutory requirements are met
- Assist with project work relating to upcoming CQC inspection preparation (timing expected within next 4 months)
- Offer general governance support across the directorate
- Provide handover support for new substantive team member
