Croydon is reshaping how it delivers for the residents of its social housing, and the Head of Housing Management will be central to that effort. One of four Heads of Service supporting the Director of Housing Management, you will own the design and delivery of the day to day landlord relationship for thousands of households across the borough, covering tenancy management, anti-social behaviour, tenancy sustainment, tenancy checks and environmental improvements.
This is a role for a leader who genuinely enjoys the operational craft of housing management. You will plan and direct service delivery in a complex environment, hold the line on professional and legislative standards, and build a culture across managers and front line teams where excellent customer service is the default rather than the exception.
You will be the senior figure stakeholders turn to when issues are politically sensitive or technically difficult, and you will be expected to resolve them with judgement, speed and a clear sense of what good looks like for residents. Reporting to the Director of Housing Management, you will work closely with fellow Heads of Service to deliver a coherent housing offer, contribute to wider corporate strategy, and ensure your service plans align with the Council’s overall direction.
You will manage delivery partners and providers to commission outcomes, develop your people, and bring rigour to budget management, performance, safeguarding, risk and health and safety. The Council expects its Heads of Service to take a one Council view, to seek out external good practice, and to role model the leadership values that the new Croydon is being built on.
The candidate we are looking for will bring deep experience of social housing management within the regulatory environment that governs the sector, the leadership presence to motivate teams through change, and the strategic confidence to shape policy and procedure as well as deliver the operational rhythm. You will be comfortable in front of residents, confident with members, and credible with regulators. Above all, you will care about the quality of life of the people who call a Croydon home their home.
