We are supporting a healthcare organisation seeking an experienced Interim Risk Consultant to lead and strengthen its risk, governance, and compliance arrangements during a critical period of review and development. This role combines ownership of business-as-usual risk management activities with responsibility for reviewing and enhancing broader corporate governance, policy management, and compliance frameworks. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring risks are effectively managed, policies are embedded in practice, and governance processes remain fit for purpose. The organisation is also evaluating its future approach to ISO 9001 accreditation, making previous quality management systems experience highly desirable.
The Opportunity
Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will provide hands-on support across risk and compliance activities while driving key improvement initiatives. You will work closely with the existing compliance function and Health & Safety team to create a more joined-up and effective approach to organisational risk management. This is an ideal assignment for an experienced consultant who is comfortable operating strategically while remaining hands-on in delivery.
Key Deliverables
- Lead and manage the organisation's business-as-usual risk management processes, ensuring risks are identified, monitored, mitigated and reported appropriately.
- Review and enhance the existing risk management framework, ensuring alignment with corporate governance and compliance requirements.
- Take ownership of the Corporate Risk Register, ensuring it is accurate, current and effectively embedded across the organisation.
- Produce high-quality, board-ready risk reports and management information.
- Review and strengthen the organisation's policy framework, including the development of a centralised policy register.
- Assess the effectiveness of policy ownership, review cycles, version control and ratification processes.
- Test adherence to policies and procedures across the organisation and provide assurance around compliance.
- Develop a proportionate and practical approach to policy auditing and compliance monitoring.
- Support the organisation in determining its future approach to ISO 9001 accreditation and quality management arrangements.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business to improve governance, accountability and control effectiveness.
- Ensure risk, compliance and governance processes are embedded and consistently applied across departments.
Required Experience
- Significant experience operating within risk management, governance and compliance functions.
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing corporate risk registers.
- Strong understanding of organisational policy frameworks and compliance assurance processes.
- Experience reviewing governance arrangements and assessing control effectiveness.
- Practical knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, including accreditation considerations and quality improvement frameworks.
- Ability to produce clear and concise reports for Executive Teams, Committees and Boards.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Comfortable balancing strategic improvement work with day-to-day operational delivery.
Preferred Background
We are particularly interested in individuals who have worked within complex, regulated or service-led organisations and can demonstrate a track record of strengthening risk and governance functions while bringing colleagues along on the journey. Whilst the role can be delivered largely remotely, some on-site engagement will be beneficial to build relationships, understand operational risks and support successful implementation.
