Croydon is rebuilding its housing service with safety at its core, and we are looking for a Head of Compliance to lead that work. Sitting within Assets and Repairs, this role carries professional responsibility for ensuring every social housing property meets its legal and regulatory obligations across asbestos, gas, electrics, water, lifts and the wider tier two compliance landscape. It is a role for someone who understands that compliance is not a paperwork exercise but the foundation on which residents trust their landlord.

Reporting to the Director of Housing: Assets and Repairs, you will lead the Compliance function and provide assurance to the Council, to its members, and to regulators that our stock is safe and that we can prove it. You will design and embed an assurance framework that holds up to external scrutiny, develop the dashboards and reports that give leadership a single version of the truth, and act as the Council’s competent technical voice on social housing compliance. You will work hand in glove with the Head of Fire and Building Safety to give residents a seamless safety offer, and you will build the contractor and partner relationships that make programmes of work actually deliver.

This is a moment of real focus for Croydon. The Council is being honest about where it has been and clear about where it needs to get to, and the Housing directorate is central to that journey. The successful candidate will inherit a team that wants to do well, a leadership group that backs the function, and a regulatory environment that demands continuous improvement. You will need to be comfortable holding the ring on the golden thread, responding to incidents with calm authority, and engaging with the Health and Safety Executive, the Building Safety Regulator, MHCLG and the London Fire Brigade as a peer.

We are looking for a leader with a strong technical foundation in property compliance, the credibility to influence contractors and colleagues alike, and the temperament to embed the disciplines that keep residents safe day after day. If you have led compliance at scale in a complex social housing setting, or are ready to step up into that space, this is one of the more meaningful roles in London local government right now.
