Where leadership meets lasting national impact.

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) exists to deliver a clear and compelling vision: better financial futures for everyone in need. As an arm’s-length body sponsored by the Department for Work and Pensions, MaPS plays a central role in the UK’s financial wellbeing agenda, bringing together policy, delivery and innovation to ensure that people can access trusted guidance and make confident financial decisions throughout their lives. Through its work across pensions guidance, debt advice and money guidance, MaPS is shaping a more inclusive and resilient financial future for millions.

Its Service Experience function brings together the capabilities that design, assure and continuously improve services, connecting customer need and policy intent with the way those services are designed and delivered.

The Role

Against this backdrop, MaPS is seeking an exceptional Head of Policy and Technical Expertise. Reporting to the Corporate Director of Service Experience, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring that MaPS’ customer-facing services are grounded in robust policy, trusted technical expertise and clearly defined guidance outcomes. You will translate complex legislation, regulation and market developments into strategic recommendations, service requirements and guidance positions that improve customer financial wellbeing.

Acting as MaPS’ authoritative source of policy and technical expertise, you will bridge the space between policy intent, customer need and service delivery. Leading a focused team of specialists, you will ensure MaPS anticipates emerging risks and opportunities and remains trusted, compliant and responsive across a changing financial landscape.

Experience Required

You will be a credible and accomplished leader with significant senior experience in money and/or pensions policy. You will bring the intellectual agility to interpret complex legislation and regulation, translating it into strategic direction, practical service requirements and meaningful customer outcomes.

With a strong track record of influencing government, regulators, industry bodies and senior leaders, you will combine sound strategic judgement with the confidence to challenge and advise. You will also have experience leading specialist or multidisciplinary teams, building capability and creating an inclusive, high-performing culture that is firmly focused on outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to turn complex policy into services that improve people’s lives.
