About The Role

The Solicitor position has arisen in our Investment, Asset Management and Occupiers team to work with and alongside our partners who specialise in commercial investment work, asset management and corporate occupiers, acting for established and growing property funds, offshore companies, national retail operators and local SMEs on a broad range of property transactions. To help us succeed and achieve our ambitions, we are looking to ideally appoint a newly qualified Solicitor, with relevant real estate experience gained in a trainee seat or as a Paralegal. You will join our highly successful national Real Estate team, based in our Birmingham office. The role is particularly suitable for a candidate who is ambitious, confident in their abilities and is keen to grow and develop their own relationships.

Team

Our national Real Estate team has an outstanding reputation for its technical and commercial expertise across all disciplines, including commercial development, commercial investment, mixed‑use development, landlord and tenant, retail and leisure, finance and securitisation, real estate litigation, planning and environmental. The Team also supports Gateley Legal's corporate, banking and restructuring teams who act for a wide variety of corporate clients and banks as well as national insolvency practices. It also works hand in glove with our non‑legal property businesses Gateley Capitus, Gateley Hamer, RJA, Gateley Smithers Purslow and Gateley Vinden which give us a unique market advantage with property investment and development clients. The Team is friendly, supportive and sociable and you can expect to be supported by the partners and senior team members and in turn asked to support junior members of the team.

This opportunity would ideally suit a newly qualified to one‑year PQE Solicitor who can demonstrate an understanding within the following areas of real estate work:

  • Investment Sales and Acquisitions – The Team acts for property investment funds and other institutional and family office landlords on the acquisition, financing, management and sale of numerous property assets. Projects range from large portfolios to quirky one‑off buildings. Some experience of assisting on transacting investment acquisitions would be welcome along with an ability to quickly and succinctly analyse due diligence information, produce title reports, and provide pragmatic commercial advice.
  • Asset Management / Landlord & Tenant – Experience of drafting and preparing leases, agreements for lease, licences to alter, licences to assign and general asset management work is essential. The Team acts for major landlords and tenants across all sectors (retail, office, industrial) and experience of assisting on transactions for both would be beneficial.
  • Corporate and Banking Support – The Team also supports the corporate, banking and restructuring units with the property aspects of corporate sales and acquisitions. Experience of assisting with corporate support work – including drafting and negotiating suites of warranties, disclosure letters and business purchase agreements – would be useful but not essential. Some knowledge of acting for borrowers in connection with property financing and refinancing would also be of assistance (including the drafting of certificates of title).
