About the Role
The GIS Technician role is based in our Guildford office with a hybrid work arrangement (home and office).
The focus of this role is to produce high quality plans in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or Computer Aided Design (CAD) as required. You will support the GIS Team to meet company objectives for the production of the necessary documents in all aspects of Site Identification; Compulsory Purchase and Land Acquisition.
There will be opportunities to assist in the development of an integrated online GIS and land referencing database system, review existing workflows and make recommendations for improvements and assist in the development of new workflows, particularly in ArcGIS Pro.
The Gateley Hamer team is a property consultancy that helps clients extract value from development assets with expertise in CPOs, easements and wayleaves, infrastructure projects, land referencing and public inquiries. We operate across the public and private sectors and work with developers, planning professionals, local authorities and scheme promoters to provide expertise on complex, large-scale developments. GIS supports understanding a site’s needs and informs essential planning decisions. Our growing GIS team uses ArcGIS software within a bespoke property research system to tailor data interpretation, visualization and dissemination to client needs. We combine smart analytics with cartographic principles to provide geospatial insight for various projects.
The Person
Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- You must be a graduate with a degree in Geography (or similar) or have industry experience and comprehensive experience using ArcGIS software
- Developing and analysing spatial databases
- Maintaining QA procedures on all datasets and mapping outputs
- Knowledge of UK GIS datasets and open-source data
- Understanding of His Majesty’s Land Registry (HMLR) title plans
- Assist in developing efficient working practices and enhance team skills through innovation
- Good communication, teamwork and motivation; you will work on projects for resident associations, land agents, local authorities, government departments and solicitors
- Willingness to provide basic in-house GIS training
- Experience of coding in Python and SQL is desirable
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritise a busy workload with deadlines and follow instructions
- Ability to multitask, organise workload, work autonomously and meet deadlines
- Excellent time-keeping, motivation, teamwork and decision making
- High accuracy and attention to detail in data capture; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong communication with clients and staff
- Confidence in Excel is desirable
