Job Overview

Regular roster of 4 on 4 off shift, availability for 19:00 - 06:15, Overtime rate of 1.5, Free onsite parking, complimentary meals and refreshments, free uniform, free life insurance, company sick pay, pension scheme.

Start dates March.

As a DFT Checker you will be responsible for checking prepared meals for all classes ensuring that the meals are to specification and comply with menu cards.

You will also ensure you have checked any requests for special meals or last-minute requests (additional meals, aircraft changes, return catering, etc.) and they correct numbers are ready for uplift.

You will be responsible to complete all security checking procedures in line with DFT requirements and highlight any delays through daily written reports.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain overall productivity within designated area against section objectives and targets.
  • To obtain uplift sheet with daily allocation of flights, update sheets for the transport operation.
  • Keep accurate records of changes & transactions (i. e. check off/record changes)
  • Check & Amend aircraft configuration changes (ie shortages/increases)
  • Ensure correct use of stowage labels on each piece of airline equipment as appropriate
  • To check all equipment and is to satisfactory standard, i. e. in good working order (trolley doors, brakes), clean (old tickets removed), dry and bars for correct specification and quantities.
  • Assemble and check allocated flights & ensure delivery to appropriate department/bay/class
  • Assemble and check relevant stock/equipment & ensure delivery to appropriate department/bay/class
  • Assemble and check sundry items are placed on relevant flights as reqd.
  • Implement Dry Ice procedure as instructed
  • To work as directed in different environments for example, chillers and fridges.
  • To check the food items by number, type and condition.
  • To make a written report of any reason for delay.
  • To complete all security checking procedures in line with DFT requirements.
  • To handle aircraft type changes/cancellations/return caterings.
  • To request, resolve extra items necessary for a flight.
  • To ensure efficient hand over to transport teams.
  • To ensure all flight components are sealed and all seals are recorded
  • To ensure temp monitoring an all food components is carried out.
  • To ensure that any faulty/damaged equipment is reported to supervisor and transferred to appropriate areas
  • To adhere to all health and safety & Hygiene requirements, including using the correct kinetic lifting and carrying techniques.
  • To meet all targets and deadlines as requested

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • A-levels or equivalent and/or relevant work experience.

Work Experience

  • Extensive experience in a similar role, Previous experience in the food industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Basic Hygiene
  • Ideally some experience in a production/manufacturing / stores environment
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of taking accountability

Skills & Knowledge

  • Numerate and literate, ability to interface with management
  • Must demonstrate integrity, confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Ability to work efficiently using own initiative to resolve issues
  • Ability to build relations and manage diverse teams
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English,
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales, prioritising as appropriate
  • Proactive and positive/flexible attitude

Previous experience in a catering or hospitality role is desirable but not essential.

You must be able to work shifts and be keen to learn.

In addition to job - related training, you will develop your skills in team work, time management, multi-tasking, communication and attention to detail.
