Scope of the Role

The Team Leader – Flight Checking Operations is responsible for supervising, supporting, and coordinating a team of Flight Checkers across multiple departments and operational processes.

The post holder ensures that all flights are assembled, checked, and dispatched accurately, safely, and in full compliance with customer, regulatory, and company standards.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent organisational abilities, and flexibility to work across various operational environments including chilled and ambient areas.

The Team Leader acts as the primary point of escalation for flight checking queries, stock discrepancies, equipment issues, and operational delays.

SHIFTS

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Coordination
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Flight Checkers to ensure efficient execution of daily tasks.
  • Conduct daily briefings, allocate work assignments, and monitor progress throughout the shift.
  • Ensure all team members understand customer specifications, uplift sheets, menu requirements, and operational priorities.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching and ensure new staff receive adequate training.
  • Monitor staff performance, identify skills gaps, and support development needs. Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure strict adherence to CAA security procedures, Health & Safety regulations, and Gate Gourmet hygiene and quality standards.
  • Monitor completion of all required documentation including uplift sheets, dispatch notes, handover sheets, and CAA security records.
  • Conduct regular spot checks across operational areas to ensure full compliance and operational accuracy.
  • Problem Solving & Incident Management
  • Escalate critical issues promptly to Operations Management.
  • Liaise effectively with other departments including Catering, Transport, and Production.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of all operational incidents, delays, accidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
  • Communication & Handover
  • Communicate effectively with all relevant departments to support smooth flight dispatch operations.
  • Ensure all flights are sealed, recorded, and handed over with accurate and complete documentation.
  • Provide clear and comprehensive end-of-shift handovers to incoming Team Leaders and Line Managers.
  • Workplace Standards & Safety
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment, following “clean as you go” standards.
  • Ensure faulty or damaged equipment is reported immediately and removed from operation.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure correct manual handling and lifting techniques are used by all staff.
  • Qualification & Experience
  • GCSE passes in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a production, manufacturing, logistics, or fast-paced operational environment (desirable).
  • Strong working knowledge of security, hygiene, food safety, and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Airline catering or logistics experience is advantageous.
