At Gartner, we guide the leaders who shape the world, equipping them with indispensable insights, advice, and tools to achieve mission-critical priorities. Gartner Consulting is where insight becomes impact. We help the world's most influential organisations turn complexity into measurable outcomes by combining Gartner's unmatched research, benchmark data, and practitioner expertise with hands-on execution.
As a Managing Partner in Gartner Consulting, you will advise some of the UK's most influential public sector organisations on the decisions that will define the future of government services. Working alongside an established team of Public Sector Partners, you will help senior leaders turn strategy into action, modernise services, optimise technology investments, and improve outcomes for citizens.
The Opportunity
As a Managing Partner, you operate at the intersection of strategy, technology, and executive leadership. You are a trusted advisor to Permanent Secretaries, Director Generals (DGs), Chief Digital & Information Officers (CDIOs), Chief Data Officers (CDOs), Chief Operating Officers (COOs), CHRO’s, Chief Transformation Officers, Chief People Officers and senior government leaders, helping them navigate complexity, make high-stakes decisions, and deliver meaningful transformation.
You will own and expand a portfolio of Gartner's most important Public Sector relationships, bringing the full force of Gartner's research, benchmarks, consulting expertise, and ecosystem knowledge to clients' most critical priorities.
Unlike traditional consulting models that stop at recommendations, Gartner Consulting partners with clients throughout the transformation journey, helping ensure strategy translates into adoption, measurable outcomes, and sustained value.
Why This Role Matters
Government leaders face increasing pressure to modernise services, improve efficiency, accelerate digital transformation, and deliver better citizen outcomes, all while operating within complex regulatory, political, financial, and security environments.
- Delivering large-scale digital transformation programmes that improve citizen and employee experiences.
- Modernising legacy technology and operational environments while maintaining continuity of critical public services.
- Turning data, AI, automation, and cloud investments into measurable outcomes rather than isolated initiatives.
- Managing increasingly complex vendor and delivery ecosystems across government and industry partners.
- Optimising technology spend and commercial arrangements while maximising value for taxpayers.
- Building resilient, secure, and future-ready organisations capable of responding to rapidly changing demands.
Gartner Consulting helps leaders navigate this complexity through objective research, benchmark-driven insights, practical transformation expertise, and end-to-end execution support.
What You'll Do
- Advise at the highest level. Partner with senior government leaders to define technology and transformation strategies that directly enable organisational effectiveness, operational efficiency, innovation, resilience, and improved citizen outcomes.
- Turn insight into execution. Lead complex consulting engagements grounded in Gartner insights, helping clients move from strategic recommendations to measurable delivery and sustained adoption.
- Drive measurable value. Help organisations modernise technology estates, optimise operating models, harness data and AI, improve service delivery, manage risk, and maximise return on technology investments.
- Expand account portfolios and drive growth. Develop trusted relationships with senior stakeholders while identifying, shaping, and closing strategic consulting opportunities.
- Lead exceptional teams. Inspire, coach, and develop high-performing consultants who thrive on solving complex public-sector challenges.
- Shape the future of Public Sector Consulting. Contribute to the growth of Gartner's Public Sector practice through thought leadership, capability building, and the development of new client opportunities.
Where You'll Make Impact
Your client work will span some of the most critical priorities facing government organisations today, including:
- Government Transformation & Service Modernisation
- Digital Government Strategies
- Technology & IT Strategy
- Operating Model Design & Organisational Effectiveness
- Data, Analytics & AI Enablement
- Cloud Strategy and Modernisation
- Cybersecurity, Risk & Resilience
- Sourcing, Ecosystem & Vendor Optimisation
Working across Central Government departments, executive agencies, policing organisations, and wider public-sector institutions, you will help leaders modernise services whilst delivering meaningful outcomes for citizens and taxpayers.
What Sets You Apart
- A proven background in a leading consulting or advisory firm, balancing client delivery, executive relationship management, and revenue generation.
- Deep understanding of the UK Public Sector, particularly Central Government environments.
- Experience working with or advising organisations such as HMRC, Home Office, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Cabinet Office, Ministry of Justice, Department for Transport, Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Department for Business and Trade (DBT), NHS organisations, the Metropolitan Police, and/or similar public-sector institutions.
- Strong technology consulting pedigree, with experience advising senior stakeholders on transformation, digital, technology, data, or operational priorities.
- Credibility across multiple technology and transformation domains rather than a single area of expertise.
- A track record of influencing senior executives and delivering measurable outcomes, not simply recommendations.
- Experience leading strategic sales pursuits, proposal development, and executive-level client relationships.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to adapt Gartner's frameworks, benchmarks, and research to each client's unique challenges.
- The presence, resilience, and judgement to manage multiple senior stakeholder relationships whilst maintaining exceptional delivery quality.
- A highly collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build strong internal networks and partner effectively across teams to bring together diverse expertise and deliver meaningful client outcomes.
Who Thrives at Gartner in This Role
- Executive-level relationship builders who are comfortable selling insight, outcomes, and transformation, not just services.
- Leaders who can build trust with senior government stakeholders and navigate complex organisational environments.
- Individuals who combine strategic thinking with a passion for execution and measurable impact.
- Consistent over-achievers who combine ambition with humility.
- People energised by complexity, change, and the opportunity to help shape the future of government through technology.
