Gartner is recruiting for a Senior Director Analyst to join its Government and Education Practice, supporting defense CIOs and technology executives in advancing modernization and innovation. This role delivers actionable insights on emerging technologies, data integration, and operational resilience, engaging with European and global defense organizations. The ideal candidate has 12+ years of EMEA or NATO defense IT leadership, deep expertise across military domains, and strong analytical, communication, and mentoring skills, enabling clients to navigate complex challenges and drive mission-critical priorities in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
About This Role:
Gartner Analysts are industry thought leaders who create must-have research, market insights and best practices for a broad range of defense organizations. This analyst role sits within Gartnerβs CIO and AI Leaders Research, Government and Education Practice. The analyst will support CIOs and other technology executives in accelerating national defense modernization and innovation.
A Senior Director serves as a leader within Gartnerβs Business and Technology Insights organization, establishing oneself as a credible voice within their designated market at local, regional, and/or global levels. Using exceptional research and analytical skills, a Senior Director plays a significant role in producing insights that Gartner clients consume and apply to their mission-critical priorities.. They are a trusted source of advice for clients, reinforcing Gartnerβs value every day. They engage with defense clients through the creation of content and via in-person and virtual meetings, sales support visits and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer appropriate recommendations.
The person filling this role will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of defense organizations and their partners by guiding them in their use of emerging technologies and data to drive operational resilience, enable seamless multi-domain integration and interoperability and strengthen workforce readiness as they navigate the complexities of todayβs geopolitical landscape.
What You Will Do
β Track European and global defense market trends, relevant vendors, emerging technologies, and best practices to advise CIOs and IT Executives in staying ahead in a constantly evolving technology landscape and changing geopolitical uncertainties
β Build credibility as a defense technology and data expert for CIOs and IT Executives expert representing Gartner Business and Technology Insights
β Actively participate in ideation and research community discussions to establish strong positions on topics that impact Government CIOs and develop research
β Lead qualitative and quantitative studies to establish thought-provoking insights for our C-level clients
β Write evidence-based content that is easily consumed, defensible and actionable.
β Deliver high-quality, actionable advice to an executive client audience (e.g., CIOs, program executive officers, CTOs, etc.) through a variety of media.
β Create and deliver thought-provoking presentations for webinars, executive briefings and other client-facing events.
β Deliver outstanding sales and service support to retain and grow the Gartner business..
β Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and the Business and Technology Insights group excel in delivering client value
β Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members
What Youβll Need
β 12+ years of relevant IT and/or program executive leadership working for an EMEA or NATO defense organization and with its ecosystem of allies, partners, IT vendors and contractors
β Bachelor\’s degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred
β An informed understanding of the strategic and operational challenges facing defense leaders within and across military domains (i.e., land, sea, air, space, cyber)
β Extensive experience in European defense leading strategy and/or implementation of programs and technical capabilities in one or more of the following areas:
β AI strategy, solutions and/or implementation, including data readiness
β Data integration and visualization for the purpose of establishing a common operating picture in defense
β Cybersecurity and resilience trends and program requirements
β IT infrastructure and operations, including cloud services and edge computing
β Quantum computing trends
β Autonomous systems
β Multi-domain command and control systems
β Communication and information systems
β Demonstrate executive presence; can immediately establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders
β Learning agility and adeptness with navigating highly matrixed environments
β Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
β Strong organizational skills: with the ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high-quality deliverables
β Strong communicator who can explain complex concepts concisely and simply.
β Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions.
β Proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges.
β Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team
