Executive Partner (EP) serves as a trusted advisor to our clients who are CPOs from Global 1000 organizations and government agencies. They help clients identify mission‑critical priorities and key initiatives to achieve specific enterprise goals. EP roles include defining, developing, coaching and critiquing strategies, helping transform organizations, advising on vision and strategy, aggregating Gartner research insights, and becoming a consigliere for the client.
Relationship Management
- EP manages a portfolio of senior executive client relationships and participates in account planning with Account Executives.
- The EP engages in all phases of the client lifecycle: pre‑sale, onboarding, relationship management, delivery, review, and renewal.
Success Definition
- Executing a smooth hand‑off from the sales team.

EP supports research activities such as facilitating client participation in studies or case panels, aligning with Gartner research initiatives, and providing client feedback to the research organization. EP works with analysts to develop and deliver CPO‑relevant research.
Program Delivery
Define and deliver innovative solutions by assessing client needs and developing a customized value plan in line with Gartner Procurement strategy. Work with clients to advance procurement maturity through research, peer networking, and coaching. Critique client strategies, guide organizational building, and assist in developing procurement strategies and implementation plans. Establish and maintain working relationships with internal groups to create comprehensive, sustainable deliverables for clients. Direct and facilitate client peer group calls and meetings.
Content Development and Management
Participate in presentations. Engage in relevant research communities to keep topic knowledge current and share client experiences. Facilitate client interaction and collaboration through the Procurement client community portal and assisted client connections. Lead and participate in roundtables and Gartner Exec Series webinars.
Subject Matter Expertise
EP must be a senior business executive with demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering overall procurement strategy, execution, and performance improvement. EP should be an accomplished current or former CPO (Head of Procurement) who has managed a significant P&L, direct reports, and associates. EP is responsible for retaining clients per Gartner Retention Metrics and working closely with Sales to close new CPO business.
Other Requirements
- University graduate (Masters preferred) with 10+ years in a senior management role as a CPO, SVP, or EVP, or 5+ years in a procurement executive role.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, humility, and experience working with C‑level executives.
- Strong EQ and reflective listening skills.
- In‑depth understanding of procurement industry and the role of the CPO.
- In‑depth understanding of the business value of procurement and its alignment with business strategies.
