Gartner is seeking an Analyst for emerging technologies and practices to support cyber security and defense strategies in advancing modernization and digital transformation. Successful candidates will need a deep understanding of cybersecurity and national defense strategies as well as experience enabling programs, policies and initiatives, with emphasis on civilian governments and defense, and its global allies, partners, and suppliers of technology products and services.
About This Role:
Gartner Analysts are industry thought leaders who create must-have insights, market predictions and best practices for a broad range of world-leading organizations. A Senior Director serves as a leader within Gartner’s Business & Technology Insights business, with a credible voice within their designated market at local, regional, and/or global levels. Using exceptional research and analytical skills, a Senior Director produces pragmatic and provocative insights which Gartner clients consume and apply to mission critical priorities. They are a trusted source of advice for clients, reinforcing Gartner’s value every day. They engage via in-person meetings, virtual meetings, sales support visits and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer appropriate recommendations.
This analyst role sits within Gartner’s CIO Practice. The analyst will support CIOs and other technology executives in accelerating national defense modernization and innovation. As geopolitical uncertainties and disruptive forces impact defense organizations and their allies and partners, this role will focus on practices to support operational resilience & security, multi-domain integration and interoperability, and workforce readiness.
What You Will Do:
- Track global market trends, relevant vendors and emerging technologies to remain ahead of the curve within changing geopolitical uncertainties and War in the Middle East.
- Write evidence-based content that is easily consumed, defensible and actionable.
- Deliver high-quality actionable advice to an executive client audience (e.g., CIOs, program executive officers, CTOs, etc.) through a variety of media.
- Create and deliver presentations for webinars, executive briefings and other client-facing events.
- Build credibility as a cybersecurity expert representing Gartner Business & Technology Insights.
- Deliver outstanding sales and service support to retain and grow the Gartner business.
- Actively participate in ideation and research community discussions and collaborate effectively with colleagues across our research community.
- Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and Business Technology & Insights provide excellent service delivery.
- Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant IT and/or program executive leadership working for or with government and defense, including its ecosystem of allies, partners, IT vendors and contractors.
- An informed understanding of the strategic, security and operational challenges facing government leaders within and across military domains (i.e., land, sea, air, space, cyber).
- Experience in security roles (e.g. Government CISO or equivalent).
- Experience implementing NIST, DoD/W and IC cybersecurity standards/policy or foreign equivalent or experience in a commercial cybersecurity consultancy serving governments.
- Extensive experience leading civilian and/or defense strategy and/or implementation of programs and technical capabilities in one or more of the following areas: AI strategy, solutions and/or implementation, including data readiness; IT infrastructure and operations, including cloud services and edge computing; Cybersecurity trends and program requirements; Quantum computing trends; Autonomous decision systems; Multi-domain command and control systems; Communication and information systems.
- Experience as an auditor for cybersecurity compliance programs (e.g., FedRAMP, CMMC, ISO 27K, SOC) preferred.
- Demonstrated executive presence; ability to immediately establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills: ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables.
- Demonstrated excellence in research and writing ability.
- Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions.
- Proficiency in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts concisely and simply.
- Comfort presenting at large and small-scale speaking engagements.
- Strong business and financial acumen.
- Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team.
- Learning agility and adeptness with navigating highly matrixed environments.
