Warfield CE Primary School is seeking to appoint an organised, professional and highly reliable Clerk to the Governing Board to support the effective governance of our school. This is a key role providing administrative and procedural support to the Governing Board and ensuring governance operates efficiently and in line with statutory requirements.

This vital position reports to the Chair of Governors and ensures the effectiveness of the governing board by meeting the administrative and procedural requirements and enabling the board to have successful discussions.

Primarily the clerk is responsible for:

  • Preparing agendas in consultation with the Headteacher and the Chair of Governors;
  • Taking and writing up the minutes at Governors’ meetings;
  • Distributing documentation and other information to the Governing Body.

The Clerk will also need to become familiar with the DfE Governance Guide and provide accurate advice to Governors as necessary. There are typically six Full Governing Board (FGB) meetings each year, usually held on Wednesdays at 6.00pm. Attendance at additional committee meetings — including Resources, Curriculum & Learning, and other ad hoc meetings — will also be required. The Resources Committee generally meets three to four times per year in the evening, while the Curriculum & Learning Committee typically meets three times per year during the school day. Flexibility and a willingness to attend both daytime and evening meetings are therefore essential.

The successful candidate will also be expected to attend briefing sessions held by the Local Authority which are held during the working day and also take advantage of other training sessions that may be offered. Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential. The job requires someone who is a good communicator, who works well on their own using their own initiative and as part of a team.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children/young people, and expects all employees, workers and volunteers to share this commitment. This position requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check because it involves contact with (or access to data concerning) children/young people/adults at risk. The Clerk will be expected to use their own computer and work from home.

Warfield CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced DBS clearance.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community. We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to providing equality of opportunity to all. Our aim is to treat all employees and prospective employees with integrity, respect and consideration.
