This major UK & European IP law firm has a couple of excellent opportunities for part- or fully-qualified Patent Attorneys to join their thriving and top-level Engineering & ICT patents practice to focus particularly on the areas of AI/ML and/or Quantum Technologies. These new positions will allow you to work with a number of clients at the cutting edge of these fast-expanding fields. The roles can be based at any of their UK offices (Bristol, Cambridge, London, Manchester) and will involve working closely with a number of partners, fellow associates and trainees and IPSS specialists. The opportunities offer a wide range of high-quality patent work, with a particular emphasis on drafting, along with prosecution, opposition work, freedom to operate and opinion matters. They will be highly commercial, involving work with clients all over the world on portfolios of various size from start-ups to multinational companies, where there is typically a strong leaning to drive IP strategy in these fast-moving and high-growth fields. The team are happy to consider applicants with a formal qualification in a variety of backgrounds, such as Maths, Physics or Computer Science, so long as there has been a significant formal component in AI/ML or Quantum Tech, or alternatively holding a relevant certificate attained separately to the STEM degree. Another route could be some solid specific industry experience in these fields. The level, depth and split of academic and working patent and industry knowledge will influence the level at which you join, and they are open to discussing this on an individual basis. In addition to the technical side, you\’ll need the ability and experience to manage patent projects and workflows, and to contribute to BD efforts in these areas, while also being personable and approachable, with a desire and willingness to continuously develop and learn.
