We are looking for a full time Yard Supervisor for our expanding West Worthing Builders Merchant. The successful applicant needs to have experience of working and managing in a warehouse or yard and be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the building trade and happy to work inside and outdoors; being flexible to what customers or the branch needs. They will be responsible for the efficient and safe running of our yard and warehouses, making sure we provide the high quality service to our customers that we strive for and ensuring a high standard of health and safety is kept at all times.

Gardner & Scardifield is a local family owned Builders Merchants, Electrical Wholesalers and DIY Suppliers based in Lancing, but operating throughout Sussex. We have a long and fascinating history of circa 100 years, and have been under current ownership since the 1970’s. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Day to day responsibility for the organisation of the yard, keeping the yard in a clean and safe condition and ensuring that health and safety policy and procedure is always followed.
  • Supervise the yard team efficiently and effectively to ensure all orders are picked and ready for collection or delivery on time.
  • Support stock management of the branch, ensuring proper procedures are followed, and monitoring stock levels, closely working with the branch manager and the sales team to ensure that orders are placed.
  • Help drivers with their deliveries, loading and unloading stock.
  • Accurately completing all administrative tasks.
  • Motivate, train and develop the yard team to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure appropriate plant checks are carried out.
  • Any other requirements set by your manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • An enthusiasm for teamwork, to work hard and learn is essential.
  • Experience of managing or supervising people.
  • Drivers licence is not essential but very beneficial.
  • Forklift licence or experience is essential.
