We are seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team at our head office in Stroud. Working closely with our Senior Quantity Surveyors, you will assist in managing the commercial aspects of various projects across our Civils, Building, and Landscaping divisions. You will play a vital role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest professional standards. Cost Management: Assist in preparing valuations, cost analyses, and budget forecasts for active projects. Subcontractor Management: Help manage subcontractor accounts, from processing payments and variations to assessing final accounts. Carry out site visits to measure and value completed works on-site alongside project managers. Financial Reporting: Assist in compiling monthly cost-value reconciliations (CVR) and cash flow forecasts. Procurement: Help procure materials and subcontractor services, ensuring compliance with budget constraints and project specifications. Contract Administration: Gain exposure to and assist with standard contract mechanisms (e.g., NEC or JCT), ensuring all project paperwork is filed accurately. A degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a closely related construction field (or currently studying towards one). Experience: Ideally 1–2 years of experience in a similar assistant or trainee surveyor role within a contracting environment (experience in civils, building maintenance, or groundworks is highly advantageous). Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically advanced Excel). Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving licence is required, as the role will involve travel to various regional sites and depots. Clear and confident verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, subcontractors, and site teams. Proactive approach to identifying potential cost overruns or commercial discrepancies early.
