As a Plant Area Assistant at Garden Plant Online, you will be part of a team ensuring our plants are well cared for and assisting customers in finding the right plants for their needs. You’ll use your vast knowledge of plants to help with day-to-day tasks, including caring for and maintaining plants, preparing orders and keeping the plant area healthy, tidy and inviting. You’ll also provide friendly and helpful customer service, making sure every customer has a positive experience with us.
Plant Care & Merchandising
- Maintain plants to the highest standard on a daily basis, using your knowledge and initiative ensuring they are healthy, correctly watered, trimmed and fed properly where necessary and presented attractively in their rows.
- Keep plant displays looking appealing, tidy, well organized and inviting with clear and accurate labels.
- Regularly replenish stock, ensuring they are presented in the best possible condition and assist when unloading deliveries of stock.
- Monitor stock levels and inform your Manager of any shortages, damages or issues.
Customer Service
- Offer expert advice to customers and provide a helpful, professional and approachable service, making customers feel welcomed.
- Support customers with their orders and purchases including safely carrying and helping load heavier items to their vehicles when needed.
- Respond to customers' questions and concerns in a calm and professional manner, directing any issues that cannot be resolved to the relevant team.
- Process customer orders carefully and efficiently, ensuring all details are correct and orders prepared to a high standard.
General & Administration
- Receive and check incoming deliveries carefully, making sure quantities and items are correct and following company procedures.
- Identify any tired, damaged or unsuitable plants and deal with them in line with company guidelines.
- Help with stock takes outside normal working hours when needed, as well as supporting special events and promotional activities.
- You may also be asked to support other areas of the business as needed such as general duties and helping operations run smoothly.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Strong knowledge of plants and horticulture, including plant health and maintenance, proper watering, feeding and care.
- Degree, diploma or relevant qualification in Horticulture, Plant Science or a related subject.
- Genuine passion for plants and gardening with interest in developing your knowledge further.
- Previous experience working with plants, in a garden centre or within the horticulture industry.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to work independently as well as in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic numeracy, IT skills, high attention to detail, merchandising, operational tasks and inventory management.
- A full UK driving license and access to your own vehicle preferred.
- Must be physically capable of safely lifting and moving heavy items and carrying out manual work throughout the day.

This is a part-time role with the possibility of a full-time opportunity.

- Cobham Chatterbus Routes C1, C2, C3: connects Weybridge, Cobham, Oxshott and Leatherhead to Cobham & Stoke D’Abernon train station, from then a walk is required.
- Route 715: runs between Guildford and Kingston via central Cobham, long walk or taxi required.
