The Opportunity

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial delivery team based at Heathrow. Working closely alongside the Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will take operational and financial ownership of major infrastructure schemes which are spanning civil engineering, structural upgrades, and planned/reactive aviation asset maintenance. This role requires a proven commercial team lead who can manage a dedicated group of surveyors, drive robust contractual governance, safeguard profit margins, and maintain strong client relationships across complex, safety-critical contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Delivery & Team Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Surveyors, fostering professional growth and guiding candidates through formal accreditations (APC/RICS).
  • Financial Governance & Reporting: Oversee full end-to-end cost management, monthly cost reconciliations, cash flow forecasting, valuation applications, and executive performance reporting.
  • Contract Administration & Dispute Resolution: Manage commercial risks, scope changes, and variations. Liaise with internal legal/contract service teams to resolve commercial disputes and secure recoveries.
  • Pre-Contract & Work-Winning: Actively contribute to bid support, resource planning, tendering, and commercial analysis to win and secure future framework agreements.
  • Executive & Client Engagement: Serve as a key commercial interface during regular project reviews, executive board updates, and client operational meetings.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience & Team Management: Proven track record operating at a Senior or Managing QS level, with demonstrated experience managing commercial teams to achieve strict targets on time and within budget.
  • Sector Expertise: Deep expertise in civil engineering, infrastructure maintenance, or safety-critical sectors (such as aviation, highways, rail, or major utilities).
  • Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Professional accreditation (MRICS or CICES) is highly preferred.
  • Technical & Negotiation Skills: Exceptional grasp of cost estimation techniques, contract administration, dispute resolution, and risk mitigation.
  • Location: Based in or easily accessible to the Heathrow / Greater London region, with flexibility for site and office travel as required.
