gap construction are proud to be representing a successful and well established construction contractor in their search for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team in Brentwood. With over 45 years of experience within the construction industry, our client has built an excellent reputation for delivering a diverse range of projects across the UK. Their work spans commercial, industrial, education, refurbishment, fit out, restoration and new build sectors, working with a strong portfolio of repeat clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within an established contractor, gaining exposure to a varied range of projects while working alongside an experienced commercial team.

Performance Objectives

  • Assist with the commercial management of construction projects from procurement through to completion
  • Support Quantity Surveyors with project budgets, cost plans and financial reporting
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, including obtaining and evaluating quotations
  • Prepare and review subcontractor packages and orders
  • Assist with valuations, variations, applications for payment and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs against budget and highlight any potential commercial issues
  • Assist with the preparation of commercial reports and forecasts
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to support the successful delivery of projects
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Develop a strong understanding of commercial processes and construction contracts

Person Specification

  • Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying or commercial role within the construction industry
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification, or currently working towards one
  • Graduate Quantity Surveyors with relevant industry experience will be considered
  • Good understanding of construction processes and commercial principles
  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build relationships with colleagues, clients and subcontractors
  • Proactive approach with a genuine interest in developing a career in Quantity Surveying
  • Ability to manage priorities and work effectively within a busy commercial team
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
