Our client is a successful and rapidly growing manufacturing business supplying high-quality products to major retailers and customers across the UK. They are now seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead the site's technical, quality, and product development functions.
The Role
As Technical Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the Technical, Quality, and New Product Development departments, ensuring the business maintains the highest standards of food safety, legality, quality, and customer compliance. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will manage and develop the Quality Manager and NPD Manager, providing strategic direction while maintaining a strong hands-on presence across site operations. You will play a key role in maintaining BRCGS accreditation, leading audits, supporting customer relationships, and driving continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the site Technical, Quality, and NPD functions
- Directly manage and support the Quality Manager and NPD Manager
- Maintain and continuously improve the site's BRCGS accreditation and quality management systems
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, legal, customer, and regulatory standards
- Lead all internal, customer, and third-party audits including BRCGS
- Oversee HACCP systems, risk assessments, and food safety procedures
- Manage customer technical relationships, specifications, and compliance requirements
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality, process, and product development
- Investigate customer complaints, non-conformances, and implement corrective actions
- Support and guide NPD projects from concept through to launch
- Ensure traceability systems, documentation, and site standards are maintained at all times
- Work closely with Operations, Production, and Commercial teams to support business objectives
- Develop and mentor teams to promote a strong quality and food safety culture
- Monitor KPIs and provide regular technical reporting to senior management
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as a Technical Manager within manufacturing or food production
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with BRCGS standards and audits
- Experience managing Quality and/or NPD teams
- Excellent understanding of HACCP, food safety systems, and compliance standards
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the business
- Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills
- Experience within fast-paced manufacturing environments
- Food Safety and HACCP qualifications desirable
- Experience working with retailer standards would be advantageous
